Ryan Harne
Graduate Student
Address:
136 Durham Hall Virginia Tech Blacksburg, VA 24061 Ryan is pursuing a Ph.D. under the advisement of Prof. Chris Fuller. His main research focuses on developing advanced passive vibration absorbers. These designs cleverly incorporate the natural elasticity of certain materials and shapes and then distribute their vibration absorbing effects over the covered surface, while keeping the mass of the treatments to a bare minimum. While the specific end-use has been for thick structures, these distributed vibration absorbers have also been successfully applied to thin, composite materials as well.
While Ryan completes his doctoral degree at Virginia Tech, he hopes to gain valuable teaching experience. Previous T.A. appointments have been enlightening exposures for him and it is his goal to balance the excitements of research and instruction.
Outside of the VAL, Ryan is an avid cyclist and races for a local team, Rogues Racing. More than merely for biking, Ryan is always interested in getting outdoors for fresh air and exploration
