Professor Marty Johnson is an Associate Professor at Virginia Tech. He has over 15 years experience as a research engineer in the field of acoustics and vibration with specific emphasis on noise and vibration control and signal processing. He received his PhD in 1996 from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, University of Southampton, UK, which is the world leader in acoustic research. He moved to Virginia Tech in 1997 as a research associate and has been a professor since 1999. Dr. Johnson has published over 80 papers in technical Journals and Conference proceedings and has attracted as PI or Co-PI, $3M in research funding. He has been sponsored by: The Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Army Research Lab, the Army Engineering Research and Development Center, Ausim Inc., Boeing, Crutchfield Corp., DuPont, Hyundai Heavy Industry, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, NASA, the Office of Naval Research, McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Company and Sennheiser. His current research interest include, acoustic propagation models in urban environments, acoustic localization using multiple mobile microphone arrays, signal processing for 3-D audio and noise control in aircraft and rocket payload compartments.
